Engagement Sessions-What, Where, and Why|Toronto Wedding Photography

When looking for a wedding photographer, you may find that each photographer takes a slightly different approach.  One point of difference you may come across is the inclusion of an engagement session (or a pre-wedding shoot).  We have chosen to include an engagement session in all of our wedding collections.

This is the perfect opportunity for us all to learn about each other and to see how we interact and work together. It’s our goal during this session to capture great photos in a fun and relaxed environment without the added pressure of the wedding day.  Engagement Photos_Toronto Wedding Photography_0001A photo session before your wedding means that when your special day arrives, you will know what to expect, you will be confident and you will be comfortable with us capturing those important life moments.

There are two questions our couples commonly ask as they prepare for their engagement session… where should the session take place and what should we wear?Engagement Photos_Toronto Wedding Photography_0002When thinking about location, it’s always great if there is a place that has special meaning for you both, maybe even something as simple as your own neighbourhood. Otherwise, you might consider if you prefer an urban or park-like setting, a waterfront/beach environment, a historic neighbourhood, or other elements that represent who you are as a couple in some way.

Most importantly, you should feel comfortable in the location, be free to express affection at the location and give yourself permission to have FUN!

Here are a few other considerations when selecting outfits…

  • Two outfits are nice. Sometimes one outfit photographs better than another or we may want to go for two different looks.
  • Consider the location when choosing outfits and shoes… walking on a sandy beach or hiking through the forest may not work in heels.
  • Try to coordinate colours a little between the two – complementary rather than matching, clashing or competing with each other.
  • Bright colours can make a good accent [if that’s your thing].
  • You might consider bringing a few accessories – hats, scarves, jackets, vests, etc – that can be switched out or removed, to provide a few different options.
  • Props can also be fun if they suit your personalities… to maximize creativity, you may want to let your photographer know in advance what you are bringing.
