To First Look or Not to First Look|Toronto Wedding Photography

First look photos have become increasingly popular and more often than not, our couples are choosing this option. However, we have found they are somewhat hesitant when initially presented with the idea, so we thought we would offer some insight from our experience. In the end, how you plan your day is entirely your decision, but a little information may help to inform your choices.

So, what do we mean by first look photos? For us, it means creating a unique moment for our couples to see each other for the first time before the ceremony and capturing their true, raw emotion. Imagine how great it would be to share a private moment where you can freely express your love and adoration the first time you see the person whom you’ve chosen to spend the rest of your life with.

After the bride and groom spend a few quiet minutes together, we then take additional bride and groom photos as well as wedding party photos. Depending on how the day is planned, we may also do immediate family photos at this time.

Many think first look photos will take something away from that moment when the bride walks down the aisle. In our experience, this has not been a factor at all. There is still something magical about that exchange between the bride and groom when she sees her groom at the top of the aisle and when he sees his bride walking toward him.

Taking the time to do photos before the wedding also allows you to spend more time with your guests. Afterall, you invited them to celebrate this joyous occasion with you. Why not start celebrating as soon as the ceremony is over? In many cases, the alternative is to rush off for photos, then rush back to make your grand entrance at the reception, leaving no time to interact with your guests until the fabulous meal you planned is complete.

And finally, we’ve noticed that the bride and groom are generally much more relaxed after their first look photos. This is the person with whom you share everything, your rock, and likely the one who builds you up and calms you down when you are feeling excited, anxious or nervous. On this, one of the most important days of your life, just seeing the other person can help clear your mind, freeing you up to enjoy the day and savour those special moments.

But as we said, the decision is yours to make and whatever you decide, your day will be beautiful.
