What’s your wedding season?

As wedding photographers, people often assume our busiest season is summer.  And, while there is just a small window of summer-like weather here in Toronto, we have found more and more that wedding season is really any season, so why limit yourself to just a couple of months?

For those who may be deciding what time of year to have your wedding, here are a few things we’ve noticed with each season.

Winter

When we think of a winter wedding, we may have visions of the perfect sunny winter day and a beautiful white blanket of fresh snow.  Or, we have nightmares of wind gusts up to 60 km/hour and wind chill temperatures of minus 25 degrees Celsius.  Really, it could go either way. Wedding-Season_0001.jpgFrom a photography perspective, winter weddings provide the opportunity for photos that are different than most… as long as the bride and groom are up for it.  It may mean wearing an extra layer under that gorgeous dress and handsome suit, but the results could be worth braving the cold for 15 or 20 minutes. Wedding-Season_0002.jpgThere are other advantages to winter weddings. Since fewer weddings seem to happen during the winter months, there is a chance the venue may have seasonal rates.  And, it’s more likely that your guests will not have other competing events that may occur in the more popular summer months.Wedding-Season_0003.jpg

Spring

In my personal opinion, the well-known lyric ‘love is in the air’ was meant for spring. The snow has melted and there is a renewed sense of life everywhere we turn. It’s not too hot and your dream wedding venue may still be available.Wedding-Season_0004.jpg

You won’t have to worry about a surprise blizzard impacting your day, although there is a chance of rain, so keep that in mind.Wedding-Season_0005.jpgAnd, after a long winter, people are in the mood to get out and celebrate!Wedding Season_0006

Summer

Unofficially known as wedding season…  Wedding-Season_0008.jpg

… the sun is high, the days are long, the windows are down, and the flowers are in bloom.  This is a great time of year for an outdoor wedding.  Wedding-Season_0009.jpgWedding-Season_0014.jpgWith the sun shining its brightest during the summer months, choosing the right time of day for photos or any outdoor activities will be important.  Be sure to stay hydrated and have a Plan B should there be a summer thunderstorm.  Wedding-Season_0007.jpg

The warm glow of the sun and the changing leaves form a beautiful backdrop for fall weddings.  The light is soft and radiant at this time of year, lending itself well to some spectacular photos.   Wedding-Season_0010.jpgWedding-Season_0012.jpgOutdoor weddings are still popular in the fall, but keep in mind once the sun goes down the evenings can be cool.  Like spring and summer, there is a chance of rain so it’s good to have an indoor alternative for photos just in case.
